Virus software will block infected files that come in emails and web pages (99% of the time) - new ones can sometimes slip by but I havent had one infection since I installed it - plus those viruses usually come from pop-up window auto-downloads! Curse you spammers.

Ok this is the best free virus program on the planet IMO its called AVG. Download AVG Free They also offer a commercial version with stronger protection and priority updates - perfect for small office networks. Install that - it will automatically download new virus definitions every day - make sure you tell it to check your mail too - it will ask you when you set up.

When you first install it you should let it run a full scan (this may take a while so you can do it before you go to bed, if you have been infected this long whats a few more hours? :)
