The 809-telephone scam is quite a genius scam, how it works is you receive an email or telephone call asking you to call an 809 area code number. When you call you get a long recording and after just 1 minuet you could have lost up to 3,000$.

How they do this is the area code 809 is for the Bahamas, the area code can also be used as a pay per-call-number and since it is not covered by the U.S. regulations of 900 numbers (meaning you must be notified of the charges) you get charged outrageous amounts of money.

So avoid anyone asking you to call an 809 number!
